Overview

The signature piece in every bedroom

The headboard is the piece guests photograph and hoteliers judge a room on. It defines the room, sets the scale of the bed, and, done properly, makes the difference between a bedroom that reads 'branded' and one that reads 'anonymous'.

Red Kite Furniture builds bespoke beds and upholstered headboards to order. There are no ready-made ranges, every piece is sized to your bed, wall and scheme, and built in the fabric, style and finish you specify.

For hotels and hospitality we build to Crib 5 in contract fabrics. For private homes we build to match and cigarette test compliance in domestic upholstery-weight fabrics or leather. Both use the same hardwood frames and contract-density foam.

Why it matters

Where hotel and home bedroom fit-outs go wrong

Off-the-shelf headboards force compromise: wrong width for the bed, wrong height for the ceiling, wrong fabric for the scheme, and, critically for hotels, often not documented to Crib 5. You end up designing the whole bedroom around what you could source, not what the room needs.

Bed frames from volume suppliers routinely fail after a few years of hotel use. Joints loosen, castors break, headboards detach from wall fixings. Replacing them room by room is more expensive than specifying properly the first time.

In detail

How we build beds and headboards

Bespoke beds and headboards are a combination of joinery, foam and upholstery, every layer specified for use and scale.

Headboard construction

Hardwood or engineered timber substrate, CMHR foam layered to give the specified surface feel, hand-upholstered with tacks or staples depending on style, back-panelled in matching fabric or lining.

Bed frames

Bespoke bed bases with hardwood rails and slats where required; ottoman lift, drawer storage or plain frame designs. Sized to the mattress spec provided.

Fabric & finish

Contract fabrics documented to Crib 5 for hospitality; domestic upholstery fabrics, boucle, velvet or leather for residential. COM/COL welcomed.

Fixing & install

Wall-hung headboards fixed to appropriate substrate (stud reinforcement checked at survey); floor-standing headboards fixed to the bed frame. Our team installs UK-wide.

Commercial vs domestic

Hotel headboards are Crib 5 with contract-density foam and robust fixings, engineered for daily housekeeping. Domestic headboards use softer foams, decorative details and finer upholstery finish.
